CARLTON says Dennis Armfield has been cleared of any serious injury coming out of Saturday night's 26-point win over West Coast at Subiaco Oval.

Armfield was taken to hospital just after half-time with a compressed vertebrae in his neck after he received a high-bump from young Eagles Ashton Hams in the second quarter.

Hams was reported for the contact.

But Armfield was released when scans showed no major damage and he returned to Melbourne with the rest of the team early Sunday morning.

The Blues coped well despite being a man down on the bench for more than half the game, fighting back from a 26-point deficit at the long break to win the third term seven goals to two, then adding to the margin in the last.

The win leaves the Blues in eighth spot, a game and significant percentage clear of North Melbourne in ninth.
