Recycling is an important and underestimated weapon against climate change and Visy and Carlton are hoping to spread the message to Members and the local community through a range of activities.

Key facts about Recycling Waste and Greenhouse Emissions

- 3,231 Cubic Meters of Landfill – GREENHOUSE BENEFITS
- 400 Tonnes of C02
- The equivalent of permanently removing 96 cars off the road

Simple Tips
- Turn off all lights not being used and change to energy saving light bulbs
- Switch appliances off at the wall
- Draw the curtains to keep heat in during the winter and heat out during the summer
- Sign up for Green Energy in your home. Green energy uses renewable energy sources such as solar and wind – Carlton has a partnership with Origin Energy- Off Set the Carbon emissions from flights

Environment Tips
1. Over 40% of an average Australian household’s waste thrown away is food, garden or wood waste that doesn’t need to be there. Compost or recycle your waste instead
2. Save water by simply not letting the tap run while shaving, washing your face, or brushing your teeth.
3. Insulating your water heater will help save valuable energy, and you can go the extra mile by installing showerheads with a low flow in your bathrooms for bathing purposes to help save water. You can also put a timer on your heaters to save power.
4. Even on standby mode, most electrical items still use electricity so make sure you turn off TV’s, computer monitors and other electrical appliances at the power point when not in use.
5. Say No to plastic bags when doing your grocery shopping, and use reusable shopping bags.
6. Leave the car at home whenever possible and catch public transport, walk or ride your bike. Not only will this be beneficial for the environment but will also keep you fit and healthy as well!!
