Schools Program

The Carlton Football Community Fund Multicultural Program supported by the AFL and The Pratt Foundation has developed a program targeted at the diverse communities of Melbourne. The Multicultural Program is specifically designed to give newly arrived migrants and refugees the opportunity to participate in Australian football.

Carlton is an area noted for its cultural diversity. Traditionally known as the Italian/European precinct, it now encompasses a large Asian community. It is said that 52% of the Carlton community was born overseas, predominantly from Malaysia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Africa. There is also a large international student population who reside in Melbourne.

Using Australian football as a vehicle the Multicultural Program facilitates in assisting newly arrived migrants and refugees to better integrate into Australia society. The program consists of a 6 week of practical component as well as match day visits, tour of VISY Park and grid game opportunities.

By doing so there is a strong belief that it encourages community strengthening and inclusion within the wider Australian community. The Carlton Football Community Fund is dedicated to further social inclusion and help create opportunities for the wider community. The key objectives of the program are to:

- Encourage community strengthening and inclusion within the wider Australian community.
- Help improve personal development and social skills
- Encourage integration into the Australian community
- Assist in connecting the multicultural community with community services/centres
- Use football as a vehicle to develop educational outcomes
- Divert high risk behavior
- Improve physical health
