Carlton has continued its preparations for this weekend’s historic clash with Port Adelaide - the last match to be played at Adelaide's Football Park.

The unique situation with Essendon means there is a spot in the finals up for grabs.

The Blues are the best placed of the five teams that now have a shot at seeing some September action.

Carlton's General Manager of Football Operations Andrew McKay says the opportunity is there for the taking.

"We would have put our best foot forward to try and beat Port Adelaide on the weekend, after our dismal performance against Essendon," McKay said.

"Certainly now it means so much more to be able to win against Port Adelaide. To get a finals spot for 2013 would be fantastic, so the boys will certainly be rallying this week and doing their almighty best to win this game."

Coach Mick Malthouse says Port is a quality side, and he's expecting it will be a tough match.

But he says destiny is now in the team's hands.

"Right now the challenge is to play against a very, very good side in Port Adelaide," Malthouse said.

"If we're good enough, if we're hungry enough, if we play the right sort of game and we win, we know finals are the next week."

Carlton will regain two players for the match, with Andrew Walker (gastro) and Matthew Kreuzer (calf) expected to return.

But Health Scotland (quad) and Chris Yarran (finger) will be tested.

Meanwhile Carlton’s behind the scenes Twitter feed @LifeatCFC continues this week, with Media Manager Loretta Smith manning the account.
