The Blues will have three Irishmen among their ranks in Season 2014, after Ciaran Sheehan committed to Carlton for the next two years.

The 22-year-old from County Cork impressed with a standout performance in the recent International Rules Series against the Indigenous All-Stars.

Sheehan had previously trained with Carlton back in 2009, being invited to the Club along with Zach Tuohy.

While Tuohy stayed, Sheehan, who was just 18 at the time, became homesick and decided to return to Ireland.

Carlton’s GM-Football Operations Andrew McKay says Sheehan recently indicated he would like to give AFL another go, and Carlton was happy to give him the opportunity.

“Since coming to Carlton back in ‘09, Ciaran has continued playing good Gaelic footy and was one of the best in the recent International Rules Series in Ireland,” McKay said.

“When he first came over he was very skilful with both feet, very balanced and a very powerful runner, so he has all the attributes to play Australian rules football.

"Hopefully we can develop his skills next year and get a few games into him, with bigger and better things to come."

Sheehan will join Carlton as a Rookie, with fellow Irishman Ciaran “Casey” Byrne joining the Blues as a Category B International Rookie next season.
