OVERVIEW
The hard work paid off for Jaryd Cachia this season. After being delisted by Carlton at the end of 2011, he spent a year playing with SANFL club Norwood. Not only did the Redlegs win the premiership, but Cachia also went on to finish fifth in the Magarey Medal count.

As a result of his success in South Australia, Cachia was redrafted by the Blues. He has made the most of his second coming, making 14 senior appearances as a key tagger for Carlton in 2013.

The 22-year-old’s efforts were recognised at Carlton’s John Nicholls Medal night, where Cachia was awarded Best First Year Player.

“It was a different sort of decision, and you do have to think about it. What's going to be different? Is it the right thing to bring him back? What's changed? But the other nagging thought was, 'We never really gave him a good run at it'.”

– Carlton’s Recruiting Manager Shane Rogers talking about the decision to redraft Cachia, The Age, June 1.
