Carlton ruckman Rob Warnock has praised the Blues' 28-point win over the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday night.

The Blues won 18.11.119 to the Bulldog's 13.13.91.

Warnock said they got the result after a terrific team effort against a very good football club.

"They're a quality team (the Bulldogs) and they were always going to come back," Warnock said.

"It shows we have character. All the leaders stepped-up I thought. The boys around the midfield were really good. The forwards performed really well and so did the guys down back, so it was really good team effort."

The result marks Carlton's first win for the season, after a tough start with losses to Port, Richmond, Essendon and Melbourne.

But when reflecting on the past few weeks, Warnock said his team has remained focused on the task at hand.

"We know internally what we value. Everyone is going to have an opinion on everything - it's the way it is these days.

"The last few weeks we have dissected the game and found out where we went wrong and try to improve in those areas - so that's all that matters at the end of the day."

Carlton coach Mick Malthouse was full of praise for the Carlton ruckman, particularly in his performance against All-Australian ruckman, Will Minson.

"To me that was Rob Warnock's best game," Malthouse said.

"I will stand corrected because there may be other games that he's played that may have been very good for the football club, or for Fremantle.

"But I say that's his best game that he's played, because of the opposition and what he was able to do for us."
