Just who is Carlton’s greatest player? It’s a question that has forever and a day provoked heated discussion amongst any Blue believers blessed with an opinion.

And in this the 150th anniversary of its hallowed existence, the Carlton Football Club has seen fit to settle the debate by naming Numero Uno and the cream de la crème of its senior playing ranks – the top 12 Carlton players of all time – in order of merit.

12: Chris Judd

In years to come they’ll still be recounting stories of the day delirium took hold at Princes Park, when the great Chris Judd ended weeks of speculation by nominating the Carlton Football Club as his club of choice.

Few have given more to Carlton than the keeper of the famous No.5.

Widely acknowledged as the greatest AFL player of the first decade of the 21st century, Judd’s recruitment was a true blue coup, and came on the end of the most traumatic five years in the club’s history.

In 134 games over six seasons with West Coast, “The Juddman” had been bestowed with almost every possible honour, including the 2004 Brownlow Medal, the 2005 Norm Smith Medal and All-Australian selection in 2004 and 2006.

At Carlton, the personal accolades kept coming – from the John Nicholls Medal in 2008, ’09 and ’10; another Brownlow in 2010; an MVP award in ’11; and state and All-Australian acknowledgement.

Such was his exalted status in the game that Chris Judd was appointed Carlton captain before he’d even run out in dark Navy.
