Chris Yarran continues to demonstrate why he is one of the most versatile players in the league.

With the ability to play a multitude of positions, Yarran is the complete package – and he proved that once again on the weekend.

Not only did Yarran collect 23 disposals playing all over the ground, he also relished in the role of suppressing Collingwood livewire Jamie Elliott.

Speaking on Sunday night after the game, coach Mick Malthouse lauded Yarran’s consistency in 2014.

“He’s been a very good footballer for us all year. You’d love to be able to clone him and play him in several positions,” Malthouse said.

Malthouse was cognisant of Yarran’s importance this year, however he said that there are still processes which have to be followed to ensure the utility gets the best out of himself.

“The things you try to do with a bloke like Chris Yarran – one, you’ve got to get consistency out of him; two, (you’ve got to) throw him about to challenge him.”

In reference to Yarran’s adaptability, Malthouse feels that he is spoilt for choice when it comes to settling on the player’s role.

“He can equally go to the wing and be damaging. He can equally go to the half-forward line and kick a goal.”
