To help celebrate the AFL's Multicultural Round, 50 international students formed a guard of honour for Carlton players ahead of Friday night’s 23-point win over North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

The university students, who currently call Melbourne home, proudly waved their country of origin's flag as the players ran onto the ground.

Carlton Football Club's Fan Development and Diversity Co-orindator Ned Murphy says it was a fantastic chance for international students to be involved in a sport that is so uniquely Australian.

"This was a great opportunity for the participants to meet other international students from around the world,” Murphy said.

"And this is all thanks to Carlton Football Club's New Blue program, which aims to enrich the educational experience of international and newly arrived students and assist with their integration into local communities."
