Ever wondered how the John Nicholls Medal for Carlton’s Best and Fairest is decided?

The voting doesn’t work quite like the Brownlow, although tonight at Crown Palladium we will be counting votes round by round.

It goes a little something like this:

Five members of Carlton’s match committee independently submit their votes after each round.

Each member of the match committee may award a maximum of 20 votes per game. The votes are shared among the players of their choice, up to a maximum of eight players.

The committee members are not compelled to award all or any of their votes.

The maximum votes a player may receive is 10 from each committee member per game, therefore a maximum of 50 votes per player per game from the entire match committee.

Complex isn’t it!

It will all make sense tonight, as we count down the votes to decide Carlton’s 2014 John Nicholls Medalist.
