Carlton's Andrejs Everitt has thrown his support behind World Vision by taking part in their 30 For 30 Challenge.

This initiative encourages individuals to set a personal fitness challenge and fundraising goal to be completed in the first 30 days of 2015.

Having been involved with World Vision in the past, Everitt says he jumped at the chance to contribute more.

"I've had a sponsor child for the past three years through World Vision," said Everitt.

"They contacted me and explained the challenge and I thought it would be a great way to raise both money and awareness."

World Vision estimates nearly three million children die every year within the first 30 days of their life.

The 25-year-old says this statistic struck a cord with both he has his partner, so they collectively agreed on a fitness goal to achieve before the end of the month.

"Because of training I didn't want to commit to anything too strenuous," Everitt said.

"So we decided to aim for 100km of walking, which we hope to achieve by going for a walk after dinner every night."

"We figured out that if we can average three or four kilometres a day that will be sufficient enough for the 100km.

"We have 48km to go, so we're tracking pretty well."

Everitt says he hopes to raise $1,500 through the the generous donations of others.

"So far family, friends and a few of the boys at the Club have donated," said Everitt.

"I've also seen donations from people that I don't know, which is incredibly generous."

Money raised will help provide mothers and babies with access to clean, safe deliveries, breastfeeding support and vitamin supplements that helps boost babies' immune systems and prevent malnutrition, and vaccinations.
