Carlton players have been greeted with a Civic Reception in Shepparton as they embark on their two-day Australia Post AFL Community Camp.

City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Dennis Patterson welcomed the team before players broke into groups to visit a host of community organisations, including the Goulburn Valley Hospital, Shepparton Retirement Villages and the Maude Street Mall and Market Place.

Captain Marc Murphy said thanked Shepparton for hosting the team and said he’s looking forward to meeting members of the local community.

“It’s great to get out there into primary schools and nursing homes and brighten people’s day,” Murphy said.

“We know the people we meet get a lot of enjoyment out of that and as players we do too.”

Carlton’s leadership group, together with Andrew Walker and Liam Jones, will spend the afternoon on a cultural tour of Yorta Yorta country. The tour is particularly close to the heart of Walker whose family is from the region.

Following the cultural tour players will visit local football clubs for training clinics ahead of a community dinner in Mooroopna this evening.
