Another new recruit will debut in the navy blue tonight when Jason Tutt runs out for Carlton in the Round 2 match against West Coast.

Tutt will become the 1,160th player to don the navy blue jumper. He will wear the number 22, previously worn by the likes of Harry Vallence and Glenn Manton.

The 23-year-old joined Carlton through last year’s pre-season draft, after the Blues and the Western Bulldogs failed to reach agreement on a trade. He took the bold move to delist himself from the Bulldogs, saying he believed Carlton offered him the chance for “development and opportunity”.

Tutt heads into tonight’s match with the experience of having already played 26 AFL games, which yielded a return of 22 AFL goals.

The speedy small forward pressed his case for selection with a solid showing for the Northern Blues last week, including 21 disposals, four marks and a goal. It came on the back of three appearances for Carlton over the NAB Challenge.

Here’s some of what has been said by and about Tutt in his Carlton journey so far:

“I think that Mick (Malthouse), Andy McKay and the recruiting staff put forward their case and I looked at the Carlton Football Club as a place where I could get better.

“Everything I need to improve my football is right here and it’s tangible. It’s just a really great environment in which to learn and it’s a good fit for me in moving forward with my footy.”

– Jason Tutt on joining Carlton, 3 December 2014.

“Jason’s got through the pre-season without a hitch and we’ll be looking to him to be that player coming off the wing with that penetrating kick into the forward line.” – Carlton’s Head of Football Andrew McKay, 20 February 2015

"Tutt ended up with 21 touches, which was really good. He kicked a goal and played as a forward and up on the wing. I thought he did some really good things."

– Northern Blues coach Luke Webster, 3 April 2015
