Carlton CEO Steven Trigg says Mick Malthouse deserves the highest level of respect.

Speaking on SEN on Wednesday, Trigg lauded the work ethic of the Blues' senior coach.

“He (Malthouse) has got an unbelievable club-first attitude and for people to ever, ever question that is quite unbelievable,” Trigg said.

The Carlton chief says he's been baffled by claims in some media that Malthouse hadn't done enough homework on the opposition.

“I’ve been involved in footy for a long time and I’m not sure I’ve met anybody who knows the opposition better … inside and out," Trigg said.

Meanwhile when asked about Carlton’s development, Trigg said the club “absolutely” had the right resources to grow the list.

“I’m 100 per cent confident with Stephen Silvagni’s appointment and with our investment into databases and analytics alongside that – it will help us make better and more informed decisions," he said.

“We’re investing in the right places and I think we’ve done a really good job of resetting some of that over the summer."
