In probably his toughest weekly message to members, Blues coach Michael Malthouse has delivered a heartfelt statement to the Carlton faithful.

“There’s no one happy, no one pleased – we are so gutted and disappointed for you guys,” Malthouse said.

“I’m ever alert and aware that it’s all about our supporters – you’ve got to win and put effort in for your supporters.”

The Blues went down to arch-rival Collingwood by 75 points in a game where ‘Mick’ broke Jock McHale’s record for the most games coached in VFL/AFL history.

The only positive from the weekend was Carlton’s reserves side, the Northern Blues, holding on to beat Sandringham in a thriller.

“Our reserves went to Sandringham yesterday and held onto a narrow one-goal victory .. it was significant because they fought it out and they were fantastic,” Malthouse said.

“Hopefully a few of those boys have put their hand up for selection .. we’ll go through our selection process and see if we can pick a side that represents our Carlton Football Club.”

In the final part of his message, Malthouse emphasised again that the effort on Friday night was not acceptable and won’t be tolerated.

“We couldn’t be more upset and disappointed in our performance, the buck does stop with me, I’m ever aware of that,” he said.

“I, and the rest of the match committee, will do everything humanly possible to get the right group running down the race so that you guys can see we want to play for you.”

Carlton next takes on Brisbane on Mother’s Day at Etihad Stadium.
