Last Time They Met
Northern Blues 15. 12. (102) defeated Frankston 15. 9. (99) – Round 2, 2014 at Ikon Park

A second consecutive victory is on the line for the Northern Blues on Sunday, as they travel down the coast to do battle against Frankston at Dolphin Park.

The Blues meet Frankston for the first time since the Blues’ dramatic goal-after-the-siren win back in Round 2 last year.

Northern broke their 2015 duck last week edging Sandringham by six points, and meet a Frankston side who have gone the first three weeks of this season without a victory.

The Blues welcome considerable AFL experience to the side, headlined by Matthew Kreuzer in his return from injury; only the 25-year-old’s second game in the last 12 months, having been plagued by persistent foot injuries since Round 1 for Carlton last year.

After being voted best on ground in the Round 3, Nick Graham will miss from last week’s side having been elevated to the AFL, as has Levi Casboult.

A fantastic performance in last week’s Development loss to Sandringham has seen Zach Ballard called up for his Northern Blues senior debut as the 23rd man.

Kreuzer, Matthew Watson and Blaine Johnson will be looking to reap full reward on the weekend against a susceptible Frankston defence, which has conceded the most points against in the opening three rounds.

Mick Malthouse: Kreuzer a chance for Round 7

Despite that, home ground advantage – still a venue the Blues have won four of their past five clashes at – and an enthusiastic Dolphins side looking to get their first win under new coach Patrick Hill, will see the Blues have their work cut out for them.

Frankston succumbed to Coburg last weekend, but will be bitterly disappointed with the result given they threatened to come away with the victory in the closing stages.

Shane Hockey was instrumental in his side’s comeback, while they will regain Nathan Foote this Sunday after he missed last week’s loss to the Tigers.

Last year’s best and fairest, Ben Cavarra looms as the danger man for the Blues: Cavarra has picked up from where he left off last season, being named in the bests in each of Frankston’s first three games.
