Carlton defender Zach Tuohy says his team will be aiming to bring a greater level of intensity to the game when the Blues meet the Giants at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Blues have made seven changes for the clash, welcoming back Andrew Carrazzo, Troy Menzel and Simon White from injury, while Chris Yarran returns from suspension.

Jason Tutt, Matthew Watson and Matthew Dick have been elevated on the back of solid performances in the VFL.

While the number of changes presents a challenge in terms of continuity, Tuohy has told radio station SEN it’s up to every player to rise to the challenge.

“The backline has left a bit to be desired this year, we understand that, but I’m not fussed who gets picked down there as long as they know when we defend you’ve got to ply it out,” Tuohy said.

“We’ve been lacking that killer instinct down back and we need to find a combination of players who are willing to do what needs to be done.”

Tuohy admits his team has been disappointing this year but he says the team knows they are better and will get better.

Meanwhile the Irishman is sporting a new look this week after trimming his beard for the first time in more than a year – and he says the chop is a work in progress.

“I’ve been very, very close to sacking the whole beard altogether, and I started to trim it up, but I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of it all so I’m just going to phase it out slowly .. it’s going to get smaller and smaller,” he said.
