Carlton vice-captain Bryce Gibbs says his team is determined to regain the respect of the football community.

In the wake of Friday night’s 77-point loss to the Cats, Gibbs told SEN it’s “embarrassing” to have no answers for their poor form.

“The confidence levels are pretty down at the moment,” Gibbs said.

“There’s no easy way out of this – we all know that, we’re all well aware of it, so we’ll keep fighting on.”

The loss to Geelong compounded Carlton’s disappointing start to the season with just the one win from eight rounds. Gibbs refused to mince words when summing up his team’s efforts.

“Some of our efforts this year have been pathetic – we do recognise that and we take full responsibility. We’re trying our best to get out of it … we’ve got to turn it around quickly,” he said.

Gibbs, who was subbed out with a back injury on Friday night, acknowledged Carlton supporters and members must be feeling disheartened.

“It’s more frustrating for the fans, members and supporters because they just want to see their team turn up and have a fair dinkum crack and that’s not what they’re getting. We need to do something about it,” he said.

Speaking about his future at Carlton, Gibbs was crystal clear: “I’m here and I’m committed to this footy club and personally I’m going to try and do everything I can to get us out of where we’re at,” he said.
