Carlton captain Marc Murphy says the Blues must get back to playing on “instinct” because that’s when they play their best football.

After another disappointing loss on Friday night, the midfielder told Triple M on Saturday they’re exploring every avenue to get their season back on track.

“At the moment we’ve just got to try and explore new ways of trying to do that (turn it around) because at the moment it’s not working for us. We need to keep on having a crack because that’s all you can do,” he said.

The captain acknowledged he can say “all the right things” during the week but unless the team shows it on game day, “it means nothing”.

With a tackle count of only 35 against Geelong and 41 against GWS the week before, Carlton’s attack at the man has been criticised.

“I’ve got to attack the ball and attack the man as ferocious as anyone because I’ve got to lead by example, getting one or two tackles against GWS or whoever isn’t good enough,” Murphy said.

The skipper insisted his men are “working hard” to turn it around for their supporters who just want to see a “committed outfit”.

“We’ve got to try and turn it around the best we can … that commitment to the ball, the man and applying pressure – that’s something we’ve got to look at each week.

“It’s not about winning or losing anymore. It’s about showing committed effort and that’s all we can really worry about,” he said.

When asked about his future at Carlton the 27-year-old emphasised his desire to remain at the Blues.

“I’ve signed a long-term deal and I want to captain the club for many more years yet … they have assured me I won’t be going anywhere,” he said.
