Carlton defender Zach Tuohy says there’s still a lot of “internal belief” at the Blues despite how it may look from outside the Club.

It was another tough day at the office for Carlton players on Friday night, with the Blues suffering a 77-point loss to Geelong.

Speaking in the wake of the loss, Tuohy said he firmly believes his team can turn it around.

“Internally there’s still belief and I understand it might not look like that on game day, but there’s still a lot of belief internally,” Tuohy told 3AW Football on Saturday.

“I believe so much in all my teammates, I really do, which makes these losses even harder to cope with.”

Carlton remains at the bottom of the ladder with just one win after eight rounds.

Tuohy knows there is heavy scrutiny being placed on coach Mick Malthouse, who is out of contract at the end of the season, but the Irishman says it’s the players who must be held accountable for their poor performances.

“It’s still ultimately up to the players to do it (win) on the weekend … we take full responsibility for what we’ve been dishing up. It’s not good enough – we’re damaging the club and we’re going to have to keep trying to mix it up and get a formula that works,” he said.

The on-field struggles have sparked speculation about what could happen at the trading table later in the year. Tuohy is adamant he wants to remain a Bluebagger and give his all for the Carlton Football Club.

“From my point of view this is a club I want to be part of for a long time – I have no interest going anywhere,” Tuohy said.

“I want to put myself in a position where I can contribute enough to merit my spot at the club.”
