Lachie Henderson and Sam Rowe will jointly captain the Blues when they take on Sydney at the SCG tonight.

With captain Marc Murphy and vice-captains Bryce Gibbs and Michael Jamison out of the side, Henderson and Rowe have a chance to step up and showcase their leadership skills.

Henderson, who is in his sixth year at Carlton, has been part of the five-man leadership group since January 2014, while Rowe, after a break out season last year, was elevated in December 2014.

Carlton’s Head of Football Andrew McKay says election to the leadership group is recognition for the way the players conducted themselves last season.

“They have taken ownership of driving the values and behaviours that we expect across our football club,” McKay said.

Rowe was given the opportunity to captain the Blues earlier this year in Carlton’s opening round NAB Challenge game against the Eagles.

The defender says he gives 110 per cent in everything he does and wants to lead by example.

“It’s always nice to know you have the support of the players and coaches. I like to attack everything I do so maybe that sets a good example and shows leadership,” he said.
