Captains

In the absence of Marc Murphy, Lachie Henderson and Sam Rowe will jointly captain the team for tonight’s match.

Indigenous Round

Carlton players will wear a special Indigenous Round jumper tonight at the SCG. It was designed by Indigenous artist Clive ‘Bidja’ Atkinson, a descendant of the Yorta Yorta Nation and Andrew Walker’s uncle.

The jumper features three key elements: on the front is the Rainbow Serpent and two long-necked turtles coming together in a symbol of peace; on the back are three Aboriginal figures representing unity, harmony, strength and respect.

You can get your own Carlton Indigenous Guernsey at The Carlton Shop online, with proceeds going towards Yorta Yorta language programs.

Gift Exchange

As part of the Indigenous Round celebrations Andrew Walker will take part in the coin toss for Carlton, where there will be a gift exchange with Sydney. For its part, Carlton will present the Swans with a painting by world-renowned Indigenous artist Stan Yarramunuan.

Marngrook Trophy

The Swans and Carlton will play for the Marngrook Trophy on Friday night. The match honours the Indigenous roots of Australian football and recognises the valuable contribution of Indigenous players to the game.

Marngrook is the name given to a traditional game played during a corroboree of the Djawurrung and Jardwadjali clans in Victoria’s Western District. It is believed that this game is one of the inspirations behind Australian Football as we know it today.

Recognise

Carlton’s guernsey on Friday night will feature the ‘R’ logo of the Recognise campaign. Recognise is the movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution. For more information please visit www.recognise.org.au

Milestone

Carlton’s Simon White will play his 50th AFL game in tonight’s match against the Swans.

Reaching the milestone looked unlikely in 2013, when White suffered a season-ending fractured vertebrae. But the Blues’ defender worked hard to get back and played his most consistent season for Carlton in 2014.

Hailing from Western Australia, White was picked up as a mature recruit in the 2010 Rookie Draft and made his debut for Carlton in Round 4, 2010 against Adelaide.
