After a big week at Carlton the Blues will face another big challenge when they take on the Swans tonight at the SCG.

The Swans are still flying high from their nail-biting victory over reigning premiers Hawthorn, while the Blues are trying to turn their season around after suffering a 77-point loss at the hands of Geelong last week.

The last time these two sides met was in Round 17 last year at the SCG and the Swans easily took the four points with a convincing 71-point win. In that match, Blues captain Marc Murphy starred with 29 disposals and two goals, while Sydney midfielder Josh Kennedy had a blinder with 41 possessions and Lance Franklin kicked six goals.

Sydney hard-nut Ben McGlynn says the Swans will prepare for the match against the Blues as normal and they’re “looking forward” to the challenge on Friday night.

“We know that Carlton are going to come out firing after the week they’ve had,” McGlynn said.

“It’s probably a weight off their shoulders with what’s happened during the week so they might come and out and have a different game plan, we’re not too sure, so we just have to prepare how we want to prepare."

Carlton coach John Barker held a media conference on Thursday and emphasised the team needs to get back to basics, with effort being the main focus.

"It doesn't matter what game-plan you play with if you don't bring effort, a baseline of effort, it's null and void," Barker said.

"So we really just want to drive some spirit and some energy back into the players – obviously we've got a big task ahead of us – but that will probably be the main message.”

Carlton will miss three of its stars due to injury: captain Marc Murphy, vice-captain Bryce Gibbs and dual Brownlow medallist Chris Judd. But the Blues do regain some experience with the return of swingman Lachie Henderson and defenders Andrew Carrazzo and Andrew Walker.

Sydney has only made one change to its lineup with 20-year old Daniel Robinson coming in for Jake Lloyd who was omitted.

The game starts at 7:50pm tonight and kicks off the AFL’s Indigenous Round.
