Carlton players have visited kids at The Royal Children's Hospital ahead of this weekend's match in support of the Steven Walter Children's Cancer Foundation.

Swingman Lachie Henderson had the pleasure of handing over a donation of $13,345 to the hospital from the Carlton Football Club.

He was joined by Cameron Wood and Ciaran Byrne who took great delight in putting smiles on the faces of sick children.

Henderson, who is part of the Blues’ leadership group, says the visit really puts football into perspective.

“You sort of think it’s so bad to lose a game of football and then you come here and see what some of these kids and their families are going through … it’s good for us to get down here,” he said.

“We’re around The Royal Children’s Hospital a fair bit so we’ll be trying to raise as much cash as we can for the Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation this weekend."

The Foundation, which raises money for childhood cancer research, was established in 2001 following the death of 19-year-old Steven Walter who lost an eight-year battle with cancer.

For every goal the Blues score against the Power on Saturday, Hyundai Help For Kids will donate $1000 to the Foundation.

“Hopefully as a team we can kick some and individually I can kick some as well – it’s a thousand dollars going to a very good cause," Henderson said.

Hyundai Help for Kids is an initiative of Hyundai and Hyundai Dealers to provide grants to not-for-profit organisations focused on delivering assistance to children.

If you see volunteers rattling tins on the concourse this weekend dig deep and spare some change – it’s all for the kids!
