There was plenty of competitive spirit between all the Carlton players on Saturday – but it wasn’t on the training track!

The entire playing list, along with the families of our new draftees, all headed to the Princes Park Bowls Club for a game of lawn bowls – and there was no holding back.

Self-confessed lawn bowl extraordinaire Ciaran ‘Casey’ Byrne and new draftee Harry ‘hands like plates’ McKay blitzed the field, while Carlton CEO Steven Trigg and president Mark LoGiudice were in charge of the barbeque, and from all reports the sausages were cooked to perfection.

The day was all about bringing everyone together for the first time – creating strong relationships and building unity.

Following the barbeque and bowls, all the new players and their families took part in Carlton’s Ghost of Princes Park tour.

The tour, which goes for just over an hour, involves a slow lap of the park as Club historian Tony De Bolfo re-tells historic moments from Carlton’s past.

After hearing stories of Blues greats, there’s no doubt the tour would have been a valuable history lesson and provided the players with extra motivation when they don the navy blue jumper for the first time.
