Carlton has kicked off its preparations for Friday's NAB Challenge game against Sydney with a high-intensity session at Ikon Park on Monday.

With a near-full list on the track, the Blues completed a series of tackling, skills and match-simulation drills.

Patrick Cripps, who sat out Carlton's last NAB Challenge game with a bruised knee, took part in the full session and emerged unscathed.

It was a similar story for captain Marc Murphy, who moved well as he pushes for his first appearance in 2016 this week.

There was more positive news for Blues supporters with former Giant Liam Sumner completing his first full session in the navy blue.

The 22-year-old, who joined Carlton in October, had been working hard in the rehab group to overcome a foot injury.

Carlton will hold an open training session at 10:50am on Thursday, with another two to follow in the lead-up to Rounds 1 and 2.
