Carlton skipper Marc Murphy came face to face with his rival counterparts on Thursday morning, as the AFL celebrated its annual Captains’ Day.

All 18 captains converged at Etihad Stadium to pose for photos, meet lucky fans and chat to media.

‘Murph’, who was attending his fourth consecutive Captains’ Day, says the event is “always a bit of fun”.

With every club represented and journalists everywhere, the midfielder says there was “definitely” no disclosing of team secrets – especially just before Round 1!

“Initially it’s all the small talk, but there are a few guys who I played with at AIS and Vic Metro, so it’s good to catch up with those guys and exchange yarns,” Murphy said.

“There’s definitely no trading of secrets,” he laughed.

Apart from mingling with rival skippers, Murph also mixed with passionate Bluebaggers, with a number of lucky Carlton supporters winning the chance to attend the event.

“We met a lot of fans and little Auskickers. It was nice to sign autographs and take photos with the Carlton supporters who were down here – it’s great to get their support,” Murphy said.

The skipper, who has recovered from a shoulder injury, will be looking to pull on the boots for the first time this season in Round 1.

Carlton officially kicks off the AFL season next Thursday night against Richmond at the MCG.
