One of Carlton’s most decorated ruckman, Madden played 287 games for the Blues between 1983 and 1996. In 1987 and 1995 he not only won premiership medallions, but he was also named in the All-Australian side. Madden was awarded the John Nicholls medal on two occasions and kicked 170 goals for the Blues.

Debutants: Lachie Plowman & Liam Sumner

Lachie Plowman will play his first game in the navy blue guernsey this weekend when Carlton takes on the Bulldogs.

Plowman arrived at Carlton at the end of 2015 after being traded from GWS. Drafted with the No. 3 pick in the 2012 national draft, the 21-year-old played 20 games at a senior level for the Giants and is set to provide further poise to the Blues’ backline.

He'll be joined by former Giants teammate Liam Sumner, who will also make his club debut.

Sumner arrived at the Blues from Greater Western Sydney during the recent 2015 trade period. The speedy midfielder, taken at pick 10 in the 2011 NAB AFL National Draft, made his debut in 2012 and went on to rack up another 11 games in his time at the Giants.

Community Champion:

Carlton’s ‘Community Champion’ this week is Julia Chiera – an influential figure in women’s footy. She’s a three-time premiership player for the Darebin Falcons and former president of the Darebin Women’s Sports Club.

Through a new club initiative, Carlton will acknowledge one of its supporters at every home game this season, recognising their work in gender equality, cultural inclusion or developing grassroots football in the community. All of these fields play a vital role in educating, growing and providing better experiences in our local community.
