Ring of Honour: Syd Jackson

Carlton’s dual premiership player and Hall of Fame member, Syd Jackson, will ring the historic old Blue bell at the top of Carlton’s race 15 minutes prior to the first bounce, before being inducted into the Carlton Ring of Honour on Sunday afternoon.

Jackson, who was recruited to the Blues from East Perth, played 136 games for Carlton between 1969 and 1976. He made his debut in Round 1, 1969 against St Kilda and it wasn’t long until his silky skills, lightning pace and hard edge saw him become a Carlton fan favourite.

Indigenous great Syd Jackson won two premierships with Carlton.

Indigenous guernsey:

Carlton players will wear a special Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round jumper on Sunday afternoon at Etihad Stadium, which has been designed by proud Wurundjeri-willam woman Mandy Nicholson.

The design of the guernsey honours the life and journey of Sir Doug Nicholls.

Both the Dangala (Murray) and Birrarung (Yarra) Rivers are depicted in the design, while Sir Doug’s creation spirits are incorporated via the long neck turtle and emu seen on the front of the guernsey.

Welcome To Country

Uncle Bill Nicholson, an elder from the Wurundjeri Land Council will be holding a Welcome to Country pre-game as part of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ceremony to welcome guests onto the land. To learn more about the Wurundjeri Land Council, visit: www.wurundjeri.com.au.

Stan will also have his artwork displayed in this week’s President’s Function. If you’d like to view Stan’s work please click the following link: www.artyarramunua.com.

Acclaimed chef Robert Taylor has assisted in the design of the Indigenous- themed menu. To learn more about the Outback Academy, visit: www.outbackacademy.org.au.

Community Champion:

The Club’s ‘Community Champion’ for Round 10 is Ngarra Murray, who played a key role in organising Carlton’s Sir Doug Nicholls Acknowledgment last week.

Through a new club initiative, Carlton will acknowledge one of its supporters at every home game this season, recognising their work in gender equality, cultural inclusion or developing grassroots football in the community. All of these fields play a vital role in educating, growing and providing better experiences in our local community.
