Captain Marc Murphy has praised the Club’s young brigade for their efforts in the last quarter during the Blues’ narrow loss to West Coast.

Highlighting the contributions of young trio Jacob Weitering, Jack Silvagni and Charlie Curnow, Murphy revealed he was excited by their long-term potential.

“I think our supporters would have walked away from the game pretty excited, I know I was really excited by the way in which the team fought out the last quarter,” Murphy said.

“Our young blokes especially, in that last quarter, when the game was on the line, really stood up and played some good footy and looked really composed with the ball as well.

“Silvagni took some really good grabs, Curnow started to get on the end of a few and obviously Weitering kicked his first goal in footy, and kicked two in the second half. From that point of view, our fans can be really excited by that.

“I know it excites me as captain of the football club to see some of these young guys starting to string some weeks of good football together.”

Speaking with RSN on Wednesday morning, Murphy said the combination of the club’s older and younger players was proving to be an appealing mix.

“Gibbs is only 27 and arguably in the prime of his career, as well as Kreuzer… And Sam Docherty who is in All-Australian form this year, as well as Zach Tuohy and Kade Simpson who are flying down back,” he said.

“You mix in that with some of the younger guys who are starting to push through, and that's just really exciting for us.’

“It’s an exciting time to be at the football club and for Carlton supporters as well.”

Murphy also highlighted the VFL form of young gun Harry McKay who has recently returned to the field after overcoming a back injury.

“It was big Harry’s first real game in the VFL (over the weekend) and he’s worked really hard in the gym and in the pilates studio with our fitness guys to get his body to where it needs to be,” Murphy said.

“It’s his ability to read the play and take contested marks. During the pre-season it was pretty special the way he was attacking the football. He’s very strong in the air so we’re looking forward to seeing that over the years.

“David Cuningham also played some good footy himself over the weekend and Blaine Boekhorst and Mark Whiley also contributed so to have some of that depth underneath us is really important.”
