All three of Carlton’s nominated young guns have been named in the 2016 AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 team.

After being named in the squad last month, midfielder Patrick Cripps, who also made last year’s team, as well as defenders Sam Docherty and Jacob Weitering, have all been recognised for their outstanding performances throughout the year.

The 50-man squad was cut down to 22 after more than 6,000 fans voted on the final team. The Blues, as well as the Bulldogs and Melbourne, each had three players named in the 22.

Last week Sam Docherty won Carlton’s 2016 best and fairest, the John Nicholls Medal, while Patrick Cripps took home the Hyundai MVP award and Weitering was named Carlton’s best first-year player.

Cripps finished the season ranked No. 1 in the competition for clearances and second in the AFL for contested possessions and handballs, while Docherty was ranked fourth in the league for rebound 50s and No. 1 at the Club for marks.

Weitering, who was taken with the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, has seamlessly slotted into the Blues’ back six and was ranked third at the Club for marks and fifth for one-percenters.

Now in its fourth year, 22Under22 is the industry’s only recognised fan-voted award and provides the footy public with the authority to select the final team.

**To be eligible, players must be aged 22 years and under for the entirety of the 2016 season, including the finals series.
