OVERVIEW

Despite not running out for the senior squad in 2016, Cameron Wood performed commendably for the Northern Blues in the VFL.

The 29-year-old managed 16 games for the season, bolstering Northern’s ruck stocks as well as providing another option up forward.

In the Northern Blues’ Round 4 match against Collingwood, the ruckman gathered a season-high 18 disposals, as well as six marks, four inside 50s, six clearances and 34 hit-outs.

Away from the field, Wood has also worked closely with the Jodi Lee Foundation. In his role as an ambassador he has been promoting bowel cancer awareness for the past three years.

After 88 AFL games spanning 10 years and three clubs, Wood announced his retirement at the end of the season, hanging up the boots on a spirited career.

HE SAID IT

“It’s been a journey, I actually played my first VFL game out at Werribee in 2008 for Collingwood, my first of about 50 or so there, before 20 at Williamstown and then the remainder here.”

– Wood speaks to Carlton Media after playing his 100th game in the VFL.

THEY SAID IT

“It was a really good game from ‘Woody’, who set the tone with aggressiveness around stoppages and worked hard on spread to create another option in offence.”

– Northern Blues coach Josh Fraser praises Wood’s performance in his side’s nine-point loss to Collingwood in Round 4.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

After stints at Collingwood and Williamstown, Northern’s Round 17 clash against Werribee saw the journeyman run out for his 100th VFL game. In his milestone match, Wood racked-up 10 disposals, 20 hit-outs and booted one goal.
