Wright inks new deal

Team Selection | Round 15 Emily Angwin brings you all the team selection news ahead of our Round 15 clash against Adelaide.

Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce the re-signing of Matthew Wright, whose experience is helping lead the way for the Blues’ developing forwards.

Wright put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension this week, tying the South Australian to Carlton until at least the end of 2018.

The 27-year-old said he was grateful the Club had shown confidence in him to further his AFL career to a ninth season - his third at the Blues.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to sign on for another year with the Club. It’s nice to be able to lock that away now and focus on a really strong back half of the season with my teammates,” Wright said.

“I’ve enjoyed watching our young team grow over the past year or so, and with the commitment of our leadership group there is a belief that we can build sustained success over the next few years. I’m excited to be a part of that.”

Head of Football Andrew McKay said the Club was pleased to have secured the services of the hard-working forward for a further year.

“Matthew has been a great addition to our football club since he arrived at the end of 2015. He has a strong leadership presence up forward and contributes significantly to the scoreboard.” McKay said.

“Off-field he is a highly-respected member of the playing group. Matthew’s professionalism and the manner in which he goes about it sets a great example for our developing list. We’re really pleased to see him continue at the Blues in 2018.”

Wright arrived at Ikon Park in late 2015 as a delisted free agent, with the former Crow originally recruited to Adelaide via the 2009 Rookie Draft.

The 27-year-old had an impressive debut season in the navy blue as the Club’s 2016 leading goalkicker. To date, Wright has notched up 129 games and booted 102 career goals.
