Hosking, Arnell added to State of Origin

Blues News | Round 22 Grace Phillips brings you all the news from Ikon Park as the Blues prepare for Saturday's clash against Hawthorn.

Inaugural Carlton AFLW captain Lauren Arnell and midfielder Sarah Hosking are two of nine inclusions to the NAB AFL Women’s State of Origin squads finalised by the AFL on Tuesday.

Initial squads of 20 players were selected based on the 2017 Virgin Australia AFL Women’s All Australian team, with Blues Brianna Davey, Darcy Vescio, Danielle Hardiman, Alison Downie, Nicola Stevens and Tayla Harris all selected to lace up their boots for the State of Origin clash.

While Vescio and Hardiman have exited the Victorian side after succumbing to injury, the addition of Arnell and Hosking will see a total of six Carlton players line up for the match.

Melbourne’s Lauren Pearce and Collingwood’s Steph Chiocci, Jasmine Garner and Jamie Lambert were also named in the Victorian team’s final 22, while Bulldog Katie Brennan, Demon Bianca Jakobsson and Adelaide’s Stevie-Lee Thompson were added to the Allies’ line-up.

The match, which will be free to enter and broadcast live nationally on the Seven Network and Foxtel, will be played at 7:40pm on Saturday 2 September at Etihad Stadium, during the Celebration of Football week.

An Under-18 State of Origin match will be played as a curtain-raiser featuring players in the All Australian squad. The NAB AFL Women’s Under-18 All Australian team will be announced after the match.
