Sam Docherty and Matthew Kreuzer have been rewarded for their outstanding seasons, named in the 2017 Virgin Australia AFL All Australian squad.

The Carlton duo, who are vying for their first-ever All Australian selections, are featured in the 40-man squad which will be finalised on Wednesday.

Reigning club champion Docherty enjoyed another consistent season, earning back-to-back All Australian nominations.

The 23-year-old played every game, finishing first in the league for kicks (460) and marks (199).

Kreuzer produced his best season to date, playing 21 games on his way to his first All Australian nomination.

The 28-year-old averaged 15 disposals, five clearances and 32 hitouts a game this season.

He’ll face stiff competition from fellow ruckmen Sam Jacobs (Adelaide) and Paddy Ryder (Port Adelaide) for All Australian selection.

The final team of 22 will be named on Wednesday and selected to "best fit team balance as if to play a match".

The All Australian selection panel is Gillon McLachlan (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Andrew Dillon, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson and Warren Tredrea.
