Trade period underway

Silvagni outlines Draft strategy As the NAB AFL Draft Combine enters its third day at Etihad Stadium, Grace Phillips caught up with List Management & Strategy manager Stephen Silvagni.

LIST managers, recruiters, player managers and media have descended on Etihad Stadium to mark the beginning of the 2017 trade period.

After weeks of speculation, official paperwork can finally be lodged, as players from across the league find new homes.

Carlton’s list management team arrived this morning, with Head of Football Andrew McKay remaining steadfast there was no update regarding midfielder Bryce Gibbs.

“He hasn’t requested anything as yet, and he’s a contracted player for another couple of years, so we expect him to be with us for that period,” McKay told Trade Radio.

“It will be a similar response to last year – we expect him be a Carlton player.”

GWS midfielder Matthew Kennedy is on the Blues' radar after requesting a trade to Carlton, with McKay hopeful of securing the deal.

“It’s always risky saying we hope it’s done early but certainly Matthew is of interest to us," he said.

“We’ve got a bit of work to do to get that done over the next 10 days or so, but we’re hoping to get that done.”

The AFL trade period runs across 10 days, closing at 2pm on Thursday 19 October.
