CARLTON'S AFLW side has finalised its coaching panel for the 2018 season, with Jessica Rottura and Nick Rutley joining the ranks as assistant coaches.

Under the leadership of senior coach Damien Keeping, the pair joins existing assistants Scott Gowans and Jackson Kornberg.

Rottura made history last year when she became the first female senior coach in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Appointed co-coach of the under-19s at the Old Melburnians Football Club, the school teacher is known for her natural football smarts and ability to mentor young students.

As a level two accredited coach, Rutley arrives at Ikon Park with plenty of experience. Coaching the senior team at Wandin Football Club this season, the 33-year-old has also spent time as a midfield coach at the Calder Cannons (2016) and held development roles at both Box Hill (2015) and Casey Scorpions (2014).

AFLW senior coach Damien Keeping said he was thrilled to secure their talents as the second season of the women’s competition draws closer.

“We’re delighted Jess and Nick have joined our team, they’re both high-quality people who have a passion for footy and developing young talent,” Keeping said.

“Jess’ background as a teacher will be so valuable to our group. She has exceptional communication skills and a real drive to get the best out of people – not to mention a strong competitive streak.

“Nick’s footy knowledge, coupled with his ability to build strong relationships, makes him a real asset. He also has qualifications in mentoring elite athletes, so we’re really excited he has joined our coaching panel and excited to see what 2018 will bring for our side.”
