Northern Blues coach Josh Fraser assesses every Carlton-listed player who featured in the VFL win over Frankston on Saturday:

Tom De Koning
Stats: 8 disposals, 4 marks (2 contested), 2 goals
From the coach: What I loved about his game was his energy and enthusiasm with the way he played. He kicked two goals and took a few really nice marks, while he’s improving his understanding running patterns and game sense all the time. The evidence of reviewing the game from the weekend suggests it was another step forward for him. 

Jesse Glass-McCasker
Stats: 8 disposals, 3 inside 50s
From the coach: Jesse has had some wins in his game in the last couple of weeks: his defensive positioning and ability in the contest has been more consistent over four quarters. Having guys like Jacob Weitering there as that vocal influence has helped him, particularly on the weekend.

Patrick Kerr
Stats: 14 disposals, 3 contested marks, 3 goals
From the coach: It was a slow start but the thing I liked about Patty is his consistency in his effort over four quarters. He ended up with three goals which came about through sheer perseverance. He did a lot of leading which didn’t necessarily result in him getting the ball, but it created opportunities for others. His game is building well and he continues to be one of our consistent performers.

Darcy Lang
Stats: 18 disposals, 6 marks, 7 tackles
From the coach: His game was really solid again. He continues to build nicely from an interrupted pre-season. He played mostly on the wing while spending time forward, and he was really clean around congestion. It was a good step forward from someone we know can perform at AFL level.

Kym Lebois
Went off the ground in the opening minute after breaking his collarbone.

Matthew Lobbe
Stats: 8 disposals, 10 hitouts, 2 goals
From the coach: He played only half a game but he had a big impact for us — his leadership and ability to marshal the troops as a midfield group was really important. He was also able to go forward and finish with two goals. He sat on the bench in the second half and continued to sell the message in the second half - that leadership aspect has been important. We’ll be looking to increase his game time this week.

Cameron Polson
Stats: 15 disposals, 11 tackles, 7 inside 50s
From the coach: I liked his game - he only had 15 possessions but he had 11 tackles. His intent to pressure and the speed in which he tackled was so important for us. He spent about 60 percent of his time as a forward and had some really good front-and-centre opportunities. 

Angus Schumacher
Stats: 16 disposals, 7 marks, 5 tackles, 1 goal
From the coach: ‘Schuey’ is a young player that’s getting better each week. Playing across half-back, he was able to defend better through his positioning and kicked a really nice goal from outside 50 at an important time. He’s learning what it’s like to organise and set up behind the footy from experienced guys like Sam Rowe and then Jacob Weitering on the weekend.

Matthew Shaw
Stats: 13 disposals, 6 marks, 4 rebound 50s
From the coach: Across half-back, his defensive positioning and awareness was improved and his pressure when the ball was in contested situations was really good. I thought he made good decisions with the ball and used it well for the most part.

Jack Silvagni
Stats: 20 disposals, 9 tackles, 5 clearances, 5 rebound 50s
From the coach: I liked Jack’s game. He played as a little bit more as an inside midfielder, won a lot of contested ball and applied some really good tackle pressure around the contest. It was a slightly different look for him and he acquitted himself really well - that ability to go inside and have different strings to your bow is really important. 

Jacob Weitering
Stats: 28 disposals (23 kicks), 17 marks (6 contested), 5 rebound 50s
From the coach: He was our best on ground. He set us up really well behind the ball with his leadership and communication. He had 17 marks with a number of those intercept marks. It was a really complete game and a performance he would’ve built a fair bit of confidence from.
