CARLTON forward Charlie Curnow has backed the Club's rebuild, saying he wouldn't have committed to a long-term contract if he didn't think the Blues were trending in the right direction.

One of the League's most exciting young prospects, Curnow penned a fresh five-year deal on Thursday that will see him remain at the club until at least 2023.

Despite a tough season, where Carlton has won just one of its first 12 games, Curnow endorsed the Club's direction, and said he was excited to lead the Blues into the future.

"I wouldn't have signed for another five years if I didn't think that was the case," he said.

"We haven't had the results that we'd like and we're not showing as much effort as we need to at times – it's been a bit up and down – but we're working and progressing.

"We're making a few really big steps this year, but we've still got a long way to go. It's going to be a good couple of years to come."

The talented 21-year-old revealed that he received advice from his brother Ed as he was negotiating his contract extension.

He even took the opportunity to have a cheeky dig at his older sibling, who has played 133 games for the Blues.

"I was speaking to him a fair bit throughout the process, he's obviously really good to talk to about it," Curnow said.

"He's never really had a five-year deal, he started on a rookie list. He's worked really hard for his career.

"I feel really lucky to get an opportunity like this, so it's really good for the family. Everyone is really excited and he gave me some good advice."

Curnow was recruited to the Blues with pick No.12 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft. He has kicked 41 goals in his first 37 senior matches.
