CARLTON VFLW coach Shannon McFerran says Bri Davey has played an important role coaching the backline during the VFLW season.

The Blues' AFLW captain was sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in Round 2 of the AFLW season against Greater Western Sydney, but has remained heavily involved in the Blues’ women’s football program throughout 2018.

“She’s working through that (recovery) and plays a really big role in coaching our backline. She’s doing a fantastic job and the girls really love having her around,” McFerran told the VFLW Rewind podcast.

McFerran said while Davey would make a valuable on-field asset to the VFLW side, the defender’s recovery was imperative.

“I would love ‘Bri’ to make a comeback in the VFLW this year but no, she has been doing her rehabilitation, and wants to get it right for the AFLW season,” she said.

“She’s still in rehab at the moment and she is moving along quite nicely.”

McFerran, Davey and the rest of the coaching team’s efforts were manifested in Carlton’s 29-point defeat of Williamstown on Sunday.

McFerran said the win was a result of the side’s hard work throughout the season.

“It’s a great reward for effort. The girls have worked really hard over the last few weeks and they were unfortunate not to get the win against Melbourne Uni, so it was really nice to come away with the victory,” she said.

Carlton faces Collingwood in the VFLW at RAMS Arena from 12pm on Sunday in the ‘Love the Game’ Round.
