PADDY Dow’s stunning solo major in the third quarter of Carlton’s win against Gold Coast has landed the exciting youngster a Coates Hire Goal of the Year nomination for Round 19.

Dow’s burst of speed to break away from the pack with the ball tucked under his arm before kicking truly at full speed drew comparisons to Carlton great Chris Judd from supporters.

Dow told Carlton Media he made the decision to run to goal due to the dewy conditions.

“It was a bit wet, so the ball was always going down the back,” Dow said.

“I just thought I might as well give it a go. I thought I was going to get tackled and my running goals haven’t been great this year. I’m glad it went through.”

The incredible major strengthened Carlton’s lead over Gold Coast to 20 points.

The No.2 also had the last say of the match, with another major in the dying seconds of the game to add an extra six points to Carlton’s lead.
