NORTHERN Blues coach Josh Fraser assesses the performances of the eight Carlton-listed players who featured in the 91-point loss to second-placed Casey at Casey Fields on Saturday:

Levi Casboult
Stats:
8 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles
From the coach: We used him behind the ball at different stages into the wind, where he was able to stiffen up our back-line as a spare player. He didn’t have a massive impact on the day as a forward, but it was a difficult day for our talls.

Tom De Koning
Stats:
 10 disposals (7 contested), 17 hitouts
From the coach: Some of his ruck-work was really impressive once again. I think his appetite to compete both in the ruck and around the ground is something that’s really standing out at the moment. We’re really pleased with how he’s tracking.

Jarrod Garlett
Stats:
 5 disposals
From the coach: It was a quiet day for Jarrod. He needs to work hard on the fundamentals of being a smaller player who can work for us on the wing and up forward. We know he’s got immense talent. We’ll keep working with him.

Patrick Kerr
Stats:
10 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 goals
From the coach: I thought Patty had opportunity to have a really good impact on the game. He showed some of his class with his clean hands and ability to compete at the contest. He finished with 2.2 and could have potentially finished with more. He keeps having an impact and is becoming an important player for us.

Harrison Macreadie
Stats:
8 disposals
From the coach: Second-up after a lengthy layoff, he was probably a bit rusty to be fair this week. He showed some glimpses defensively throughout the day which showed that if he gets somewhere near his best, he’s going to be a very good player for the footy club.

Aaron Mullett
Stats:
 16 disposals, 5 clearances
From the coach: Aaron played wing with a bit of half-back — we didn’t get the run and drive which we needed from him. As an experienced player, we’d like him to have more impact on games. We know he’s capable so he’ll get another opportunity this week to turn that around.

Angus Schumacher
Stats:
 11 disposals (10 contested), 4 tackles
From the coach: He didn’t have a lot of the ball, but he played more as an inside midfielder this week given we had quite a depleted midfield. He got a lot of first possession and showed some good stuff in the contest which just didn’t translate to kicks, marks and handballs on the day. Some of the things he did were impressive.

Matthew Shaw
Stats:
 13 disposals, 4 rebound 50s
From the coach: He didn’t have the impact we were looking for defensively or offensively, but he’s shown a capacity to respond pretty quickly. He’ll be looking forward to this week.

On Coburg this Saturday
This week represents a chance to respond, pretty simply. It was disappointing last week — that consistency of personnel and the number of changes is having some sort of impact. However, fundamentally we didn’t compete and execute at the level at the standard of a top-four outfit like Casey.
