CARLTON ruckman Matthew Kreuzer will undergo a standard medical procedure this week in order to prevent any further episodes of an elevated heart rate.
The Club ruled Kreuzer out for the remainder of the season, after the 29-year-old was a late withdrawal from Sunday’s clash against Fremantle at Optus Stadium.
Head of Football Andrew McKay said Kreuzer had since seen his cardiologist who recommended the procedure as the best course of action to manage the condition.
“Following consultation with the specialist, it has been decided that Matthew will require the procedure to rectify the condition,” McKay said.
“Importantly, he is OK and all parties involved are working diligently to ensure we are providing Matthew with the best possible care. We look forward to welcoming him back for the commencement of the pre-season campaign.”
Young defender Jacob Weitering will face fitness testing this week as he overcomes a corked quad issue.
“Jacob copped that hard knock on his thigh a couple of weeks ago. He didn’t play against Freo but he will be a test at the end of this week.”
Midfielder Matthew Kennedy will require surgery on his ankle, after sustaining ligament damage at training last week.
“Matthew hurt his ankle at training last week, and obviously didn’t play the game against Fremantle,” he said.
“He’s going in to have his ankle operated on this week so he’ll miss the remainder of the season. Importantly he will be ready to go for the start of the pre-season campaign.”
Kym Lebois may be unlikely to return to the field for the Northern Blues by season’s end, as he manages his return from a hamstring strain.
“Kym is still coming back from that hamstring strain. He won’t play this week and will be touch-and-go for the following week, but probably looks less likely.”
