CARLTON has selected mature-age utility Rhiannon Watt with pick No.40 in the 2018 NAB AFL Women's Draft.

A former Australian volleyballer, Watt had an outstanding debut season for the Southern Saints in the VFLW competiton, and was subsequently crowned the Saints' inaugural best and fairest alongside teammate Ali Drennan.

Playing in the ruck for the majority of the year, Watt was instrumental in a number of the Saints' victories, constantly launching them into attack from the centre square.

AFLW senior coach Daniel Harford said Watt will add height and agility to the Blues’ list.

“Rhiannon had an exceptional year for the Southern Saints and showcased what she can bring to any ruck division,” Harford said.

“She’s a smart footballer and runs hard both ways which is a testament to her work ethic and athletic ability.”

Welcome, Rhiannon!
