WHERE does it all sit now?

It’s been a busy and extensive off-season at Carlton, with Ikon Park welcoming 11 new players into the fold. Additionally, the past few months have seen the Blues add key talent across every line of the ground.

The Blues fulfilled their mandate of acquiring mature talent to the fore throughout the off-season, with six of the 11 new players coming with AFL experience.

Those six players combined have added 288 games of experience to Carlton’s ranks for next season, helping fill the depth and body of numbers in the 22-26 age bracket.

The Blues also continued to welcome elite young talent via the NAB AFL Draft, as Sam Walsh, Liam Stocker, Finbar O’Dwyer and Ben Silvagni all became Bound by Blue.

In Walsh and Stocker, Carlton has only added to a young midfield which will form the nucleus of the side on top of the trade week addition of Will Setterfield.

The first-round pairing will have big parts to play in Carlton’s fortunes going forward, teaming up with Paddy Dow, Zac Fisher, Lochie O’Brien and Sam Petrevski-Seton who have made an immediate impact from drafts gone by.

With promising talls Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay in the forward line, they’ll welcome the incoming Alex Fasolo and Mitch McGovern who will add a new dimension to the Blues.

All these new faces do not include joint captain Sam Docherty, who - after missing 2017 with injury - has been described as the potential “recruit of the year”.

Defensively, he should provide a huge boost alongside his partner-in-crime Kade Simpson, as well as Caleb Marchbank and Jacob Weitering.

So, with the weeks of off-season movement all said and done, it goes back to the original question: where does it all sit now?
