It may be eight years since it was last worn, but Brad Fisher is once again “wearing the Carlton Football Club polo”.

Carlton’s former No.14 was announced last month as one of the Club’s newest AFLW assistant coaches, managing a forward line with the likes of Tayla Harris and Darcy Vescio.

And after three weeks of pre-season training in the new role, Fisher couldn’t be more thrilled with how things are playing out.

“It’s great to be back at the Club, it’s been a while. It was a big strange putting the polo back on again but I’m loving it so far,” Fisher said.

“The girls have so much energy and I’m feeding off that. Seeing how they go about their business has been enjoyable — hopefully we can get them working well and kick some big scores.”

It’s new ground for Fisher, who will join senior coach Daniel Harford and fellow assistants Shannon McFerran and Steven Salopek on the panel.

He said he couldn’t help but be gripped by the genuine enthusiasm shown across the playing group.

“From the very first day, I was that excited by their energy in the rooms and out on the field,” Fisher said.

“They’re so eager to learn, they train really hard — how professional they are and how well-resourced the program is for the girls [is exciting].”

Having contributed 127 goals across eight seasons in navy blue, it’s no surprise that the forward line is where Fisher will take charge of in 2019.

Fisher said with the talent at Carlton’s disposal, he was hoping for a fruitful year when AFLW 3.0 rolls around on for the Blues on Sunday 3 February.

“I’ve always been keen on coaching… When the opportunity came up, I was keen to explore it further,” Fisher said.

“I’ve been surprised by the talent we’ve got. There are some seriously good players — I watched all of the games last year and there were positive signs to build on.

“When we get them working together and with the injection of some more talent this year, we’ve got the makings of a good side."
