As a youngster I saw Dick play in the Under 19's. Who would have thought then that 50 odd years later he would save the club.

Good one Dick.

I'm not a Carlton supporter, but a Visy employee. I was in the synagogue during the funeral service for Richard.

Just before the service started, the team arrived, with coach, looking the part with their suits and Carlton ties. The Blue Boys had arrived!

It was a moving moment, and would have made him proud.

I'm a Saints supporter, and used to joke that it would have made life easier at Visy to be a Carlton fan. That said, it was obvious to me and everyone else that he loved the club. It gave him enormous pleasure, and was a major part of his life in his final years.

Much as it hurts to say it: do him proud this season!

Without a doubt, the Blues needed a saviour and Richard Pratt did it single handedly. The Club had lost all credibility both on and off the field and he restored the Club back to where they should be and where they traditionally had been for many many years. We now hope that the Club is strong enough and stable enough to continue on from his great work by putting the icing on the cake with a premiership in the next 2-3 years.

Obviously a great great man.

Hi Richard

My son Ethan is almost 11 years old. When I was Ethan's age, I lived next door to you in Kew. I loved Sunday night Chinese food at your home. Everyone was welcome. At around that time at the unripe age of 12 I saw my first Blues Premiership. 1979, Wayne Harmes, Jezza, etc.etc. WOW!!

Before Chris Judd chose us last year (which was BECAUSE OF YOU), my son Ethan asked me the question "Dad, was Carlton actually really good once?" It was hard to take. My son was going to see a team that was failing most weeks and had no good memories of them. I immediately took Ethan to JB Hi Fi and showed him all our winning grand finals from 1968 on DVD. Then I showed Ethan the sole Collingwood DVD that was available. I told Ethan to choose whether he wanted the 8 Carlton DVD's or the 1 Collingwood DVD. Ethan chose well. We bought 8 DVD's.

Thank you and toda raba for enabling me to now take Ethan to watch the Blues with great hope. It is hope that keeps us alive - "HaTikva" - a famous national anthem you'd know well. I can now look at Ethan in the eye and say to him "see Ethan, I told you that it would happen". You saved my credibility in my son's eyes. But more importantly you saved our team. Thank you.

It's time for you to now rest. Be at peace for you will always be well remembered, and remembered well.

PS. While you're there have a game of cards with Itzik - I'm sure he'd like that.

Aside from our families, we love nothing in this world more dearly than the Carlton Football Club and to say that the club itself may not have been around anymore, or at the very least in it's current form, without the aide of Mr.Pratt would be an understatement. In saying that, we would like to thank Mr.Pratt and his family for everything they have done, and for giving hope to the people that love this club and live from weekend to weekend to watch us play.

Remember Dick every time you pull on that Guernsey boys, show us what it means to bleed navy blue.

To all our Blues

- a sad day for Carlton with the passing of Richard Pratt, so I feel as President of our growing supporter Group here in Wagga that we need to acknowledge his more than generous contribution to our great club over many years - especially in our critical years since 2000 when he has almost single-handedly saved us from extinction in this great game - not only financially but also in restoring an unending belief in the might of the CFC for our future generations.

From his profile spanning nearly 60 years, we get a sense of perspective of just how much he meant to Carlton.

We at Wagga particularly support the tributes shown on the CFC site - from President Sticks, coach Ratts and the "Ghost" who says it all:

He was our Lionheart, our champion on the white horse. He saved this great club; he gave it back to all of us, the Carlton family. We each have separate families, different lives, we are many strangers who have never met and yet – standing next to someone at the football when they cheer and I cheer we look at each other and we know, despite all the differences, we are family. We are part of the burgeoning Bluebagger army. This Saturday we will all be wearing a black armband in Richard’s memory.

On behalf of the Wagga Carlton Blues Group, we extend our sympathies to Richard's family at this sad time of great loss - may he forever rest in peace.

To The Pratt Family,

I would like to pass on my sincere condolences on the passing of "the great man who saved the blues". When we (CFC)were in our darkest hour, the light shone upon us when Richard walked back in through the doors of Princes Park. I hope you the family can draw on similar strength in your time of mourning. History will show that it wasn't just your familys financial generosity that saved the club, but the presence of a strong leader! I still remember how great it was to pick up a paper after Feb 9th 2007 - The media were now writing about us in a positive light again. Even though we may have been a little premature, the "blues swagger" was back in supporter land.

Thankyou, and may Richard Rest In Peace.

As a Carlton fan & member for over 30 years, I'd like to pass on my condolences to the Pratt family.

This will sound ironic, but in early 2007 I mentioned to a work collegue it was bizarre to me that the Carlton Football Club were on the brink of financial disaster while the third richest man in Australia, a man with a grandstand named after him, a man with Carlton coursing through his veins, appeared to be standing by & doing nothing. A week later he was president of our great club. I should never have doubted Mr Pratt. From that point on, being a Carlton supporter has become fun again. The financial shackles lifted, the players certain of their futures can run around & serve this great club with pride & honour. Thanks in no small way to Mr Pratt, they do indeed know we're coming. All those who knew him spoke of a humble, kind & generous man.

I live 3 hours north of Melbourne but wouldn't miss Saturdays game for the world, as a mark of respect for this great man, a man who worked hard to become who he was and in doing so saved our club.

RIP Dick Pratt, for those of us who didn't know you will still remember you each time the Old Dark Navy Blues come to out to play.

About 3-4 years ago i was at Visy Park with friend on a business meeting. I noticed on the wall that a man by the name of Richard Pratt was on the board or around the club in our great years but had disappeared whilst we were in turmoil. I said to my friend we need this man back he is obviously very important to the club. He came back and the world at Carlton changed. Richard I never met you personally but you have left your mark with me and touched my heart in a very special way. Your legacy will forever live on in our hearts, our minds and our club

My thoughts are with those deeply touched By Mr Pratt's death, especially his family - why mourn when you must be so very proud! Unfortunately, I won't get to full-fill a wish of meeting the man who inspired hope and provided opportunity for so many. If his legacy of determination, focus, commitment and a will to be better than the rest is taken "seriously", with discipline, by the players of CFC - then we can truly say - "they know we are coming" (and their will be no stopping us - other than ourselves!)

Well done and thank you Mr Pratt! - I guess I'll meet you next time mate.

I wanted to say how well respected Dick was amongst his employees, I never met him but worked as a supplier to Visy and it was so clear how he was so highly regarded as being a wonderfully caring and thoughtful man.

That certainly came across in many of his exploits helping sport in Australia and particularly Carlton when we really needed a savior.

I know no-one involved with Carlton will ever forget you! Not just this weekend but for all weekends when I get down to the game I'll remember your valuable contribution!

Thanks Mr Pratt!

I feel now is the time to show appreciation to Dick and his family and as the greatest football club, players and supporters to unite and become members and become blue believers to get our great club back on track to once again become the powerhouse of the VFL/AFL. A pact now from the players to ignite and demonstrate always to apply 101% to everything that pulling on a Carlton Football Club jumper stands for, to be proud of our enormous heritage and go the extra yard to win games & Premierships. For too long our culture has been lost and Dick has reistalled our creed and culture the sleeping giant has more than stirred, they know we're coming. Supporters should do as Richard did put there hands in their pockets and buy there memberships and pay for their names to be forever part of the Carlton Football Club through the Blue Believers. I was lucky in 2008 along with my 2 children Jarrah and Cheyenne to meet Richard and my daughter was really touched by his presence, Richard my daughter would like to say that you have the warmest hands out of anyone that she has ever met and we know that you have a big heart. Dear Jeannie and family Pratt.

I wrote to richard via e-mail to his PA at Visy industries at the time Richard had decided to become President of the Carlton Football Club and contribute his time and energy and criticle funding in keeping the Club alive. In short he simply kept the Club that my family and I have supported for over 60 years alive and saved it from what was looking as a closed case. In a resent article that was featured in the Herald Sun, I had stated that AFL Clubs in general had a responsibility to contribute back to society, general comunity and the environment etc... Richard in his wisdom has set a very high benchmark for those that are looking at how organisations can acheive this holistic approach whilst realising / acheiving great business acheivments. To add to this in his work Richard and your family's hard work, has more importantly contributed greatly the bettermnent of society as a whole. I have lectured in marketing for over 14 years and have personnaly been involved in establishing business both at a local and international level, and have been very proud and suportive of the Family Pratt contributions to the Arts, environment and society and have often used Richard's approach to business and life as a shinning case study example how this can be acheived. As an academic and business person I will do my outmost to ensure that his legacy will continue through my teaching, further academic research work in relation to business models that incorporate environmently good practice as well as carrying on his name with all of my own and my family's involvement with our much loved Carlton Football Club.

I take a few words from the bible that we should all live by. They are: as asked by Jesus Christ at the Stonning of a sinner in form of punishment, "may the man that has not sinned throw the first rock at a so called sinner" in looking inwards, no one present at the stonning threw any rocks!!!!. We need to look at men for all the good that they bring into this world and shame on those that make a living from targeting people with such contempt in making their lively hood /own bed out of doing so.

My family's much love and our deepest thoughts are with you and the family at this time.

Sad when anyone dies. My dad died of same. Also a migrant - relatively poor but rich in spirit. Horrible way to die. The end is peaceful so to his family my condolences, and to him, may he soar with the other angels.

Hopefully he will see them all from his seat in the sky. He will be our very own "Carlton God" shining down from above.

Thank you is not enough from this grateful supporter, but our beloved Richard Pratt will be thought of when the new development is opened and each time the Carlton Football Club makes us proud in victory. Do your very best on Saturday BlueBoys. Do it for the great man watching from above.

Richard, as a business corporate sponsor and partner, I decided after the terrible sequence of events that surrounded the Pagan/Mitchell coaching role, that it was time to leave this great club. Then to find the next day after you became president, your staff contacting me to seek an audience with me was humbling as I considered myself as a small but passionate part of this great club. You asked me to return and I have. I enjoyed your handshakes, discussions on all aspects of life and hope that the legacy you have started has provided the joy you so richly deserved in those precious last days. To Jeanne, members of your family and the whole Carlton Football club family, your loss will never be replaced. I have returned to be a small part of this club and will never depart again. God Bless you my friend.

Then we fell apart at the seams. Today we have record membership, excellent leadership, a playing group with the talent to win, a great coach, and most of that was due to Dick Pratt. When he became President I knew he would turn us around, because he was a successful figure who was used to nothing but success. He did exactly what i thought he would do, and we owe him a sense of gratitude today and we should use his memory to make sure we don't let history repeat itself.

Thank you Richard Pratt, for showing your passion for the Carlton Football Club, because your passion for the club convinced me to become a member of the club, rather than just a supporter and as a legacy to you, I will continue to be a member. I also know that you will continue to watch over the "Blues" and they will continue to make you proud.

mens sano in corpore sano

It is to be prayed that the mind be sound in a sound body.

Ask for a brave soul that lacks the fear of death,

which places the length of life last among nature’s blessings,

which is able to bear whatever kind of sufferings,

does not know anger, lusts for nothing and believes

the hardships and savage labors of Hercules better than

the satisfactions, feasts, and feather bed of an Eastern king.

I will reveal what you are able to give yourself;

For certain, the one footpath of a tranquil life lies through virtue.
