The Carlton Football Club and Visy will host a very special event at Visy Park on Sunday June 21st, to celebrate the life of former Carlton President Richard Pratt. Richard died of cancer on April 28, 2009. He was 74.

Richard’s unswerving commitment to the Carlton Football Club as a player, sponsor, director, president and patron spanned nearly 60 years.

He was President of the Carlton Football Club for just 499 days but few club presidents before or since could justifiably lay claim to having achieved more in office, or of making such a profound imprint on a place and its people.

Carlton Legend and current President Stephen Kernahan said the club will be forever indebted to Richard for what he did for the Carlton Football Club.

“He made things happen at this Club – giving inspiration, leadership and above all else – belief.

“Dick Pratt was the man who saved Carlton. There’s no doubt about it”

“He’s as true a Carlton bloke as you will get and what he did for our club in its time of need, when he had other important things in his life and didn’t have to do it, showed his love for Carlton.

“All I can say is that when Dick became President, it was as if everyone at Carlton came out of the hailstorm and into the sunshine. That’s how we all felt.

“He will be best remembered for his role as President; however his contribution is far greater than that alone. His association commenced as a player with the Under 19s, he served on both the Carlton Football Club and Social Club Boards and of course he supported the Club in numerous ways for many years including sponsorship.

“His impact on this club is unbelievable and will never be forgotten.”

All Carlton supporters are invited to attend this very special event to celebrate the life of Richard Pratt and in particular the role he played at the Carlton Football Club.
