It’s been a rocky start to the 2022 AFLW season for the Game Changers and Senior Coach Daniel Harford is the first to admit that.

“Things certainly aren’t going the way we’d like them to go and we’ve got to find a way to find the root of the problem so we can assess that and deal with it,” Harford told SEN’s The Run Home.

The Blues’ early season ledger sits at 1-3, and while facing off against some of the premier teams of the competition, Harford admits that the football produced has been below expectations.

“The first place you start is your own performance, and you look and what’s working and what isn’t and why,” he said.

“Why is more important – if things are going well, why are they going well and if things are going poorly, why are they going poorly.”

For Harford, effort remains the major area to take care of in order to build the confidence of his players.

“I think there’s an element of understanding that’s gone amiss somewhere, there’s a disconnect somewhere, and then there’s the management of the relationships and the ability to get your players up and believe they’re unbreakable,” he said.

“You want your athletes going out there and thinking they’re invincible – that’s a bigger challenge than it might sound.”

Harford concedes that results thus far indicate that Carlton aren’t performing to the standard of the best teams, but remains upbeat about his side’s chances of turning things around.

“We’ve got some work to do, but there’s still six weeks to go, 60 per cent of the season is yet to be played out.

"We’re pretty bullish that there’s a fair bit of growth and development we can achieve in that time that will get us into a position that we think we should be,” he said.

The Game Changers will have tests against two more high-fliers in the coming weeks, taking on Adelaide at home and Fremantle away in the next fortnight, but Harford is up for the challenge.

“I believe we can win every game we play and I’ve got full confidence in the list we put out there, the players we put out there and the plan that’s in place.”
